The #1 priority of our current strategic plan is to renovate and expand the library to meet the needs of the community.

Our Case for More Space...

Needs:

  • The current facility was completed in 1979 and has had no major renovations.

  • The building needs to be updated to meet full ADA compliancy.

  • Community Room and meeting space.

  • Adequate Children's and Teen space.

  • Quiet study room.

  • Efficient workspace for staff.

  • Appropriate amount of shelving and space for collections.

  • Storage space.

  • New furniture, paint, and flooring.

  • Updated network infrastructure.

  • Additional emergency exits.

  • Improved lighting.

  • A facility that can serve as a disaster relief center above flood level.

  • Adequate public parking for library patrons.

Evidence:

  • The current facility does not meet the demands of the community. Limited space does not accommodate the demand for programs. Patrons are left on waiting lists due to lack of space.

  • The facility does not have appropriate space for English Language Learning classes that are in high demand.

  • The facility does not provide the appropriate space for use by community groups. Frequent requests cannot be granted due to lack of space.

  • Current children's room does not have a service desk or an emergency exit to the outside.

  • There is not adequate space for collection needs.

  • Workspace for staff is crowded and inefficient. Workspaces are shared, including Director's office. There are no private spaces for calling patrons or vendors. There is no adequate space for Supervisors to meet with staff.

  • The community does not have a family friendly disaster relief center above flood level.

  • Current facility does not provide adequate natural lighting and windows and doors are deteriorating, double paned window seals are failing.

  • Current public parking does not meet the needs of patrons.
